May 1st...

my first post of the new month...and my first post in almost THREE months!!
{hangs head in shame}

I've been SO busy lately. The good kinda busy...painting my little heart out, creating whimsical gardens a plenty.

LIVIE'S GARDEN
9x12, acrylic and oil pastel on Canson paper
Let me post a few and give a some quick deets about them. Oh my gosh, it's been since FOREVER!!

So, the trio above were inspired by my love for the Himalayan Blue Poppy flower. If you follow me, you know how I feel about those blooms. SO beautiful. SO ethereal. These beauties are done on my favorite Canson paper and painted in acrylic along with my usual oil pastel on top. These are STUNNING up close and I can't wait to share/list them.

JENI'S GARDEN
16x20, acrylic and oil pastel on canvas
This painting, JENI'S GARDEN was created specially for a fundraiser for a girlfriend from high school who passed away from endocrine cancer a couple of years ago. Purple and green were Jeni's favorite colors, so I had to paint a garden that I know Jeni would love.

DIANE'S GARDEN
24X26, acrylic and oil pastel on canvas
Next painting, and goodness how I had a REAL hard time letting this one go. DIANE'S GARDEN. The event's coordinator from a local organization that provides equestrian therapy for families of cancer victims had contacted me through my Etsy shop. She wanted to know if I would donate a painting for their gala in April. I decided I would create something special in honor my stepmom's cousin, Diane who passed away last June from Stage 4 breast cancer. I LOVED DIANE. SO MUCH. She was salt of the earth, God fearing and just the most beautiful soul. Always made my brother and I feel welcome when my stepmom married my dad 33 years ago. Diane was grace and beauty personified. This painting was created in her honor and is now the image I use in my branding for my business. This painting...makes me cry just typing this.

SKETCHBOOK BLOOMS I
9X12, acrylic and wax pastel on Canson paper
(Matted to fit a 12x16 frame)
Next in line, this garden based on my sketchbook paintings. I had gotten some questions on Instagram pertaining to whether or not I was selling my sketchbook pages. Well, I wasn't planning on it since they weren't on the most substantial of papers and they just didn't feel "finished" enough for me to list. So, this series was born. This piece found a new forever home rather quickly and more are in the works. A bit of a different, looser feel somewhat than my other gardens, but still me.

CHLOE'S GARDEN
12X24, acrylic and oil pastel on canvas
And now, CHLOE'S GARDEN. I love this 12x24 garden. It's like a perfect Spring day on a canvas. She's available and looking to bloom in her new forever home.

SADIE'S GARDEN COLLECTION
acrylic and oil pastel on canvas and panel
Finally, just released TODAY...my vintage pastel SADIE'S GARDEN Collection. Oh how much I swoon for this collection. While I do love me some bright and cheery colors, there's something so sweet, so peaceful, so retro about a vintage pastel palette...and I must say, even with 5 pieces in this one, I'm not sure it's quite out of my system yet. Expect more vintage pastels in the future.

So, THAT'S A WRAP for this blog post. 3 months of not posting and I'm sure I left some pieces and sneak peeks out, but hopefully it won't be too long before the next post.
{makes a handwritten note to blog more frequently}

PS-I hope you'll come and say HELLO over on my Instagram account and catch all the sneak peeks your little heart can handle both in my feed and in my stories. Let me be your daily dose of COLOR and get your floral fix on at the same time.

Whimsical Garden Series!!

Emmy's Garden
18x24, acrylic and oil pastel on canvas
©the enchanted easel 2018
Emmy's Garden. The first in a series of NEW whimsical gardens I spent the entire summer working on....and I haven't been able to stop ever since.
🌷
I spent the first half of 2018 doing back to back to back commissions (for which I am abundantly grateful). Then, I kinda went a little crazy and started painting these large(er) floral paintings that have been stuck inside my head for months.
🌸
A loose background of acrylic and ink sets the stage for all different shapes of blossoms that emerge from the abstract type of backdrop. Then, I add a bit of oil pastel or wax pastel to make everything bloom.

I've been on a mission since the middle of the year to strictly focus my brand on ART FOR GIRLS...of all ages. Sorry little boys. No disrespect, but when you're a girly girl such as myself well, you gotta do your thing. And my "thing" is whimsical, cute and pretty art just for GIRLS.
🌸
This painting is listed in my Etsy shop right now and that's where you will find the upcoming ones as well.
🌷
Never too late to start holiday shopping...just sayin'. And, Emmy's Garden would sure like to continue to blossom in your sweet girls happy space.

Illustration Friday~DOG

Lucky Puppy
6x6, acrylic on canvas
©the enchanted easel 2018
Just a sweet little puppy who goes by the name of "Mei-Hua" (meaning plum blossoms, of course). I created this painting this past February in celebration of the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dog. PRINTS are available as well as the ORIGINAL PAINTING (contact me if interested).
🐶🏮🌸

Also, pictured below since the IF prompt is DOG), is a recent commission I did a couple of months back. One which I had some trouble parting with because I loved it SO much. PRINTS are available of that as well due to the requests I had received for prints. If you'd like a custom painting, please don't hesitate to reach out. I have a few slots available before the upcoming holiday season.

A little dive into my creative process for my current commission...

when a sweet friend of mine approached me a couple of weeks ago for a custom painting for her niece who loves softball and isn't very "girly", I immediately thought-this probably isn't the commission for me. It seems my work has gone down a much more "girly" path both subconsciously and consciously. Definitely a true reflection of the artist. 🎀
Despite the internal struggle of not wanting to say not to a friend for fear of not being able to do her request justice, I took it as a challenge of sorts. I knew that the jersey number was 12 and that the university colors are maroon and gold. Of course, my vision didn't include a jersey with the number 12. I was thinking some sort of whimsical dress, as usual. But wait, she's a tomboy. A dress could be problem. 😔
In that moment, I had to apply the principal that gets me through every single time I run into the creative proverbial "brick wall". Question-what do I do best (or feel I do best)? Answer-whimsical girls, cute animals and flowers. Lots of flowers. Once I get back on that page, the lightbulb goes off. Fast forward to the finished sketch for the painting...
a sweet little mascot of a bear and styling' tee shirt patchwork flare jeans wearing girl. Just chilling' in a patch of 12 sunflowers after their little game of softball. {Note the extra tiny sunflower on her jeans. It's like a baker's dozen. 😉}
Creative brick wall-demolished. Sweet friend-very, very happy.
WINNING. 🐻⚾🌻

A Busy May!!

May proved to be a very busy month and happily so. 😊

Started working on a new series of cute little Chinese girls when another commission came my way a couple of weeks ago. That along with packing some pendants to ship out to a few customers was also another highlight. Thanks so much to Jewelry Affaire magazine for featuring my pendant necklaces in their Spring 2018 issue. Still so grateful for the exposure.

Here are some highlights from the month...
