painting tall, tall trees...

white birch trees, my favorite. (details of a much larger piece)

it's been a while since my last post because i've been working on some new pieces/sketches/paintings for 2014. new year means NEW STUFF! so excited to be able to "evolve" some more, as i'm a big believer in ALWAYS trying to better yourself, be it professionally and/or personally. so, with that being said...

so looking forward to a new year and a new start. 2013 definitely wasn't one of my better years (as april bought about a third neck fusion-NOT FUN and not a lot of ) but, i've never been one to dwell on negative. taking some lessons learned and moving forward to be the best little artist i can be! :)

bye bye 2013...HELLO 2014!!! :)

oh i LOVE you so!!!

© the enchanted easel 2013

ahh, the month of in love with you..and your cold temps and your snowy days. even the cloudy gray days seems to bring a bit of joy to my heart (i know, i'm odd...but keep in mind this is the girl who likes it dark at 5 o clock). the introvert for sure who could be locked in for days with a pencil, paintbrush and some paints and be perfectly content...and blissfully happy to boot! :)

the peaceful stillness of the freshly fallen SNOW and the pristine beauty of it all just takes my breath away. and while i know i'm rare, i truly love everything WINTER has to offer. i do know that if you open your mind to beauty that can be seen on the grayest and coldest of days, well, you just may kinda like it too. just a bit...;)

it's that time of year again....

CANDY CANE TIME!!! and i am CANDY CANE OBSESSED (obviously...)!!!

i've decided to sell a LIMITED number of PRINTS of this cute little guy...the mayor of my fictitious (well, it's real to me) Peppermint Bark Park...where mountains are made from yummy peppermint ice cream and and trees made of peppermint sticks and candy canes...with scrumptious pieces of peppermint bark scattered here and there amongst the snowy ground. so, careful where you walk because you may just be tempted to stoop down a grab a quick bite. ;)

how oh i LOVE candy canes and snowmen!

a link to the ORIGINAL PAINTING can also be found in my shop through the listing posted here.

random question/thought...why do you think candy canes are so difficult to unwrap? must be packaged by a dentist i'm thinking....;)

meet Crystal...

April's mermaid based on the gemstone, diamond and...THE FINAL MERMAID in my series of 12!!!

i've actually had this done for over a week and meant to post earlier, but the time got away from me. for all of you who know me personally, you know i began this series back in January. wasn't anticipating 11 months to paint 12 mermaids, but life threw me a curve ball in April and i wound up having a third c-spine/neck surgery. (AND GOD WILLING, THE LAST ONE!). well, the c-spine affects the nerves in the hand and arm, so finishing up these beauties after April certainly hasn't been easy. and while i'm not pain free (and may never be), well, these were truly a labor of love. i made a promise to myself that all 12 of them would get done, pain or no pain. and, well here i am..12 mermaids and 3 c-spine surgeries later!

looking forward to a much better year in 2014 as well as some new art and a bit of a upgrade in style. certainly not going to lose that "anime" feel my art has, just going to switch it up a wee little bit...;)

Crystal is available here as an ORIGINAL PAINTING~

and here as an optional personalized PRINT~

the rest of this month will be spent working on some new ideas/sketches for the upcoming new year!

on the easel this week (and next week)...

the FINAL mermaid in the birthstone series i began back in january. didn't think it'd take 12 months to complete 12 paintings...but a third c-spine surgery will do that to ya. however i'm a driven and determined little thing and i will overcome. always! :)

meet little Crystal, April's mermaid...based on the diamond. ironically i end the series with the month i had surgery. go figure...

this one is being painted in a mix of cool blues and grays...a very WINTRY palette (and we all know how much i LOVE me some WINTER!!!).

this will also be 2013's last painting, as i plan to spend decmeber (my FAVORITE month) sketching out lots of new ideas for new paintings in 2014. super stoked for some new work and a new year...and a fresh start! :)

for this man! who DOESN'T know that about me?! i swear little kids that i taught 6 years ago or so will tell you "ms. nicole loves peyton manning!". no kidding...

i loved him well before we ever had those horrific neck surgeries/fusions in common. and, i'll love him even after he retires. he's a total CLASS ACT and deserves EVERYTHING good to come his way. you would think after all those surgeries (and they are PURE HELL to live through and recover from- since you're dealing with a bunch of nerves in the cervical spine) that he would have just given up and retired. but no, he comes back ten times stronger and more determined than ever.

the amount of respect and admiration i have for him goes well beyond any words that i could ever convey except to say...this man is EVERYTHING.

sketching the day away...

you know when i first started brainstorming for a series of these 12 mermaid paintings back in january, i had no idea it would take me almost 12 months to complete them. i also had no idea i had neck surgery #3 waiting around the corner this past april. people of ten ask me what does that have to do with my right hand. well, they are clearly ignorant as it has EVERYTHING to do with my hand. EVERYTHING. the cervical spine controls more than we think/know.

it is today that i will finish the last 2 sketches and use the next few months of 2013 to finish the series of paintings (amongst some other things). pain free? not quite. but that never stopped me before and it sure as hell won't stop me now! :)

anytime is a good time for a pumpkin smoothie!!!

big thanks to nate and salli over at TDAC for featuring my kid-friendly, fall theme recipe on their home page jumbotron for this week! hard to believe it's been two years since this was created. and, pippa has evolved quite a bit since then....

truly a privilege to be amongst such great talent over there! take a minute and have a peek at their wonderful site...and maybe pick up a few family friendly recipes to try with your kids! :)

pippa and maggie...

a package deal! :)

finally got around to making some changes to the sketches on my website over the weekend. i re-drew them all because i prefer my mechanical pencil to a stylus ANYDAY!
please, it took me almost 14 hours straight just to re-configure everything and "clean up" the sketches a bit in photoshop...and add the pink.

14 hours on a Mac in thanks! i much prefer my pencil and paintbrush!
so happy it's done though....:)

a bit of sweetness....

eli's slumberland
©the enchanted easel 2013
on this otherwise sad day.

well, for all of you who follow me on facebook (or on here), you know i have been working on this cute little elephant over the last 4 days. it was a surprise gift for the wonderful secretary in my neurosurgeon's office, jackie, who is about to pop soon! these people have been so amazing to me through 3 neck surgeries/cervical spine/fusions that there was just NO way i could let it go without doing something. jackie has always been so lovely to me over the years that it was a no-brainer for me to want to paint her something super cute for the impending arrival of her little one.

since she's waiting until the baby is born to know whether it will be a little girl or boy, i wanted to make sure that i created/designed something gender friendly. also, it turns out, jackie LOVES elephants (like me). so, it couldn't have turned out any better.

i delivered it to her personally today and she was so surprised. her reaction made the rest of my 2013 for sure. granted, i'm a bit sore from painting so much for so many days in a row (as i'm still trying to recover fully here from my 3rd surgery) but i have to say, her reaction made the soreness worthwhile.

i have decided to sell PRINTS of this in my etsy shop found here:
it is available in sizes 6x6 or 8x8. a perfect addition for any baby boy/girl's nursery. besides, who could resist a cute little baby a diaper? ;)
