And I love her! So much!

Inspired by my love of winter (yes, I LOVE WINTER-someone has to), snowdrops and green eyes, I present to you the beautiful, Lumi. Meaning "snow" in Finnish, Lumi just seemed like a good name....I mean she kinda has a Scandanavian like vibe to her (well, to me anyway). Painted in a palette of soft sages and gorgeous grays, I wanted to give a wintry like feel to her without using baby blues and icy pastels. I must say, I throughly enjoyed this color palette I chose. 

Those big green eyes (I LOVE GREEN EYES-i digress), conveying a feeling of serenity surrounded by the delicate beauty of the snowdrop flower and kissed by butterflies wings. Lumi is indeed, "Serenity Amid the Solstice".

I really hope you love her as much as I do. She sure does own a piece of my winter loving heart.

a few weeks ago i had a commission request for a little kokeshi from the sweetest lady via etsy. obsessed with all things japanese/kawaii since birth, well she didn't have to ask me twice. ;) her response to the finished painting made the rest of my year..."That is the cutest thing I have ever seen!! Thank you so much - I am so excited about it. It is perfect colors, perfect sweet girl. Our grandma was Japanese so it means a lot to us to have something to remind us of her!"

one of four kokeshis I am currently in the midst of painting. those who know me, know i am japanese obsessed. from sakura trees to teriyaki chicken to the language....obsessed. i love kokeshi dolls. love everything about them from the size to the intricacy of them. the japanese are master crafters and i have nothing but the utmost respect for them and their dedication and discipline in everything they do. should have been japanese....;)

sweet butterflies and gingham....

for a baby girl named Mia. 

happy to have been able to complete this custom order for a friend form high school. always flattering when friends come to you for custom art work, because they know they can trust you with something so personal and unique. lots of purple going on here...

shipping these out on friday...yes, black friday. that's makes either a) a complete idiot or b) a very brave little girl or c) a combo of both. i'll take option c! )

in between painting the final mermaid...

a custom order came my way. name panels for a baby girl named Mia. and oh how i LOVE doing custom work. especially for babies :)

below are the sketches and color palette i will be using. the theme-butterflies and gingham....in purple. the letters will be much thicker on the finished panels, but you get the point...

can't wait to get started on these! :)

well, i guess it's official....

mr. winter, you've let me down once again....but my love remains true. i will always be faithful to you and your pristine beauty and frosty temps :)

illustration friday~swarm 2/26/11

ok...so i figured this painting fit this week's illustration friday theme of "swarm". i actually just finished it last week (as it is part of a set for a little girl's nursery). i just remembered to post it now...at 11:30 pm before the midnight cut off for illustration friday. whew...;)

isabelle's room~ALL DONE!:)

i'm so happy that these are done!!! and, i'm even more excited to ship them off tomorrow to liz so she can hang in them in her baby girl's room:) i am actually pleased with the way these turned out. i love the colors and the concept(s). i hope baby isabelle looks up at them and they make her SMILE:)
liz and i spoke today about doing a piece for her niece miley who LOVES cows! so, i'll be sketching some ideas for that this weekend. super excited for that one as well!:)
