A little dive into my creative process for my current commission...

when a sweet friend of mine approached me a couple of weeks ago for a custom painting for her niece who loves softball and isn't very "girly", I immediately thought-this probably isn't the commission for me. It seems my work has gone down a much more "girly" path both subconsciously and consciously. Definitely a true reflection of the artist. 🎀
Despite the internal struggle of not wanting to say not to a friend for fear of not being able to do her request justice, I took it as a challenge of sorts. I knew that the jersey number was 12 and that the university colors are maroon and gold. Of course, my vision didn't include a jersey with the number 12. I was thinking some sort of whimsical dress, as usual. But wait, she's a tomboy. A dress could be problem. 😔
In that moment, I had to apply the principal that gets me through every single time I run into the creative proverbial "brick wall". Question-what do I do best (or feel I do best)? Answer-whimsical girls, cute animals and flowers. Lots of flowers. Once I get back on that page, the lightbulb goes off. Fast forward to the finished sketch for the painting...
a sweet little mascot of a bear and styling' tee shirt patchwork flare jeans wearing girl. Just chilling' in a patch of 12 sunflowers after their little game of softball. {Note the extra tiny sunflower on her jeans. It's like a baker's dozen. 😉}
Creative brick wall-demolished. Sweet friend-very, very happy.

summer is almost over....

and i've been working hard on a few new pieces at once. busy little bee...and loving it! 🐝😊

remember these two (link to PRINTS in caption)...? had a blast last summer working on a couple mixed media animals. my first time trying something a bit different (but still cute, i might add 😏). well, i decided to give it another go with at least 2 more (another owl and a cute fox friend). been working on those (pics and video below)....

autumn serenade
ophelia's nocturne

also, i've been sketching out what i'd like to be the painting in which i close out the year 2017. peeks below...(btw, music in video is my most favorite pianist ever, mr. david benoit. oh how i love him so.💙🎹)

between a cute little bird and a wide eyed baby bear...an "autumn serenade".

this is the second (but it sure won't be the last) piece i created this summer when i was trying my hand at mixed media. can i just tell you what a total blast it was creating this piece?! so much fun and a bit out of the box for me as i am a SUPER DUPER AWESOME planner. seriously. it's one of my finer traits....i think so, anyway. ;) this little creation was kind of spontaneous....kind of....

i knew i wanted to do a bear with an autumn color scheme. the rest just kind of happened the more i kept adding different layers, different supplies...and, being my absolute own worst critic well, i'm rather pleased with the way it turned out. i mean, c'mon..look at the face on the baby bear...you just gotta love him. :)

PRINTS available here. ORIGINAL PAINTING is FOR SALE. contact me here if interested.

also, here's a link to sweet ophelia...a colorful owl done in this same mixed media style.

perhaps 2017 will bring about some more of these little *experiments*....

for a hug!

~HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY TO THE ADORABLE AND ALWAYS FABULOUS, MISS KITTY WHITE....BEST KNOWN OF COURSE AS HELLO KITTY!!!~

hard to believe it's been 40 years since this sweet little character made her debut. i have been a sucker since day one. i love sanrio and their adorable characters...but she reigns supreme!

this painting features tiny chum, her cute little bear companion, as they embrace in what else? a hug, of course. one of hello kitty's favorite things...hugs. also, the 3 apples represent her weight (as she is said to weigh approximately 3 apples and be about 5 apples high and the 4 bows? well they represent 4 decades of sheer fabulousness!)

{this painting kind of reminds me of candy (must be the confection of colors i chose)....and that always makes me happy! :)}

PRINTS AND OTHER SWEET TREATS ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE SHOP LINKS FOUND HERE:
